Occidental is a winery devoted exclusively to crafting top-tier Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast. Founded by Steve Kistler, formerly of Kistler Winery, it's a family-driven endeavor aiming to produce California's finest Pinots. Situated near Bodega on a ridge overlooking the Pacific, their state-of-the-art winery is adjacent to the Bodega Headlands Vineyard, ensuring optimal conditions for grape cultivation.
One of Occidental's vineyards, Occidental Station, lies further inland and was planted by Steve Kistler himself in 1998. Managed directly by Kistler, this vineyard yields grapes with a distinct ripeness, picked earlier than others in the range yet still embodying the signature 'Occidental' style.
Their Freestone-Occidental Pinot Noir combines fruit from multiple vineyards, including Bodega Headlands, Occidental Station, and Bodega Ridge. While sharing the same winemaking techniques as the single-vineyard Pinots, this blend offers a broader representation of the region's terroir.
