Clos De Lôm

As many of you will know, Valencia is a wine region that is becoming increasingly important to me. Luckily, that increase coincides with a really dramatic increase in quality coming out of that area; so many producers are making really delicious, thought provoking wines that take advantage of the high altitude areas within the province.

The vineyards of Clos de Lom are located in the “Valle Dels Alforins”, within Valencia's GI, planted 600 metres above sea level. It's still very warm, but that altitude provides some respite to allow the grapes a slower ripening, coupled with the chalky soils that absorb plenty of (infrequent) rain, keeping the vines healthy. Their wines are very expressive and pure, and really reflect the region. The reds have power (they're not picking early, they go for a riper, fuller style) but lovely sweet fruit and drinkability, while the Malvasia is quite rich and full bodied, textural and concentrated.
