Valenciso was founded in 1998 by Luis Valentín and Carmen Enciso, who each treasure 36 years of work in the world of wine.
The winery was established in Ollauri, a beautiful town with a winemaking tradition in the north of the Rioja Alta, where the influence of the Atlantic climate favours the fineness of the Tempranillo grape, the characteristic and exclusive variety of most Valenciso wines. The wines are the result of the demanding organic cultivation of their vineyards.
Valenciso seeks to make classically structured, subtle and elegantly fine wines using 100% Tempranillo grapes from low yielding old vines in the Rioja Alta. Winemaker Alicia Eyaralar uses exclusively French barriques, a third being new each year, to produce this terrific wine in very small quantities.
All of their payments are organically grown. We lower the production, 5,000 kilos/ha, to guarantee the high quality that is obtained with low yields. We looked after our vineyards in sustainable viticulture until in 2017 we started the conversion to organic.
Production and stabilization of the wines take place in cement tanks, prior to aging in French and Caucasian oak barrels. Exporting more than 50% to more than 40 countries, this producer is renowned by national and international critics.
