In 1999, the Bodegas Peique winery was founded in Valtuille de Abajo - where three generations of family have lived and worked with wines for over 90 years.
A wine bearing the family name demands the utmost care and attention. Bodegas Peique has concentrated on the sustainable growth of this satisfying project which they are extremely enthusiastic about; a project reflecting their character and that of generations past. Peique aims to be original and different in a globalized market and to adapt to their customers' needs. They enjoy the challenges of winemaking, and experiment with new ideas from the vine to the bottle. They share experiences, learn from the land, and pass on the same joy for wines their parents and grandparents showed them in years gone by.
The Peique family cultivates 40 hectares of vines divided among many small plots of between 0.2 and 1 hectare in size around the village of Valtuille de Abajo. Around 97% of the plants are Mencia bush vines planted between 50 and 90 years ago, and about 2% are Godello and Alicante Bouschet. These vineyards bring calm and tranquility to the family wines and reflect the indelible origins of the family's work with wine, although, of course, each harvest is different... a new challenge to enjoy every year.
