Collection: Keith Tulloch

“This small completely family owned winery and vineyard produces wines that express our unique terroir and climate, from the ancient soils of the Brokenback Range. Our family and team work to attain the full potential of these vineyards, crafting wines of personality, creativity and excellence” – Keith Tulloch

Keith started making wine under his own name in 1998, after decades of experience in the Hunter Valley and abroad.

In his youth, Keith learned about the land and the vine as a fourth-generation winemaker, working with his father Dr. Harry Tulloch. Harry is an internationally qualified Viticultural research scientist; therefore he was (and continues today) to be Keith’s mentor in all things vine, and all things grape.

Keith’s early years were spent in the vineyard and the winery, before following his father’s footsteps through wine study at Roseworthy College.

Winemaking with Hungerford Hill in Pokolbin was followed by promotion to the iconic Hunter Valley wine-producers Lindeman’s and Rothbury Estate. This included winemaking sabbaticals around this country and in France: During this time, the resonance of the Rhône was the formative intellectual experience, with multi-vintage insights to the world’s greatest Rhône producers. This included work with Jaboulet in Hermitage in 1996 and 2003, and studying Guigal to the north at Côte Rôtie. Keen to explore and learn more of the Rhône, study continued at Château Mont-Redon and Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf du Pape. Keith is proud to state: “The techniques of these great Rhône vignerons is telling in the style and ethic of our own winemaking here today.”

“I cannot remember being more impressed with an initial release of wines than I was with those under the Keith Tulloch label. The only problem is the small scale of their production, like that of Jeffrey Grosset in his early days. There is the same almost obsessive attention to detail, the same almost ascetic intellectual approach, the same refusal to accept anything but the best.” - James Halliday
