“There is more equilibrium to the 2023s than the 2022s”, Gilbert Felettig. Harvest began on 7th September, due to the high yields of the 2023s, less whole bunches were used due to the tank capacity. Even though 100% new oak were used for most 1ers, tasting through almost the entire range of 2023s, I found myself using words like precision, finesse and purity to describe the wines, rather than power and oak, as had been the case with some wines from previous years.
Gilbert Felettig himself admitted to a lighter regime of pigeage and the results speak for themselves. The different 1er Crus are distinct, one from another, and, even where new oak is used, the density and intensity of fruit is more than enough to sustain it.
