Langhorne Creek is often overlooked but it is a region with over 160 years history and some remarkable old vineyards. Situated on a flood plain close to the impressive Lake Alexandrina, the dry grown old Grenache vines produce tight bunches of well balanced, succulent fruit. Shiraz on a higher trellis system helps fruit health and balance. The Mataro is from old, trellised vines in South Australia's Riverland
All vineyards are vinified in small batches, separately. Wild ferments, whole bunch inclusion, larger oak and no filtration or fining define the natural character of the wine.
I thought this was just delicious, classically Australian with its bold and juicy fruits, its spice and supple tannins. A big yet juicy and very easy drinking red. Served cellar cool this is just an awesome BBQ wine.
