From our oldest Pinot Noir vineyard. The Pinot Noir from the terraces of the Leistadter Kalkofen grows on solid limestone rock. The removal of double shoots and exposure of the grape zone in spring and the division of the grapes in summer form the basis for the quality of the grapes. We consciously focus on a cool Pinot Noir style, which is supported by a fine acidity.
ORIGIN - Soil The Leistadter Kalkofen site sits enthroned with a spectacular view of the Rhine plain above the world-famous Kallstadter Saumagen site. The soil of the high plateau is characterized by closed limestone rock with little soil cover. After just half a meter, the roots of the vines have to assert themselves against the closed rock. Our Pinot Noir comes from the few still cultivated terraces of the Leistadter Kalkofen, which slope down into the Berntal nature reserve.
WINE PRODUCTION - Very low yield level, hand-picking, open mash fermentation, spontaneous fermentation, including manual mashing, no pumping, malolactic fermentation & aging in 225l French oak barrels, 24 months of aging in new barriques
