A generously full flavoured wine- but not particularly heavy or demanding. Fruit is sourced from 20 year old to 'old vines' mostly situated in the communes of Manduria and Sava. Some ageing in oak barriques, but it's not obviously oaky so I'm guessing these were used barrels and this just adds to the texture of the wine. It's spicy black cherry fruit to the fore with just enough grip and acidity to make this a great match to traditional rustic Italian pizza and pasta dishes. New 2023 release is excellent, not overly sweet which seems to be the current trend!
