"Southern Right is mostly made with purchased grapes, combining components from Elgin
and Walker Bay. Focused, savoury and wild yeast fermented, it partners grapefruit and
aniseed flavours with some added texture from a portion of older barrel-aged wine." Tim Atkin MW
Its very much a new world meets old world style, being quite restrained and grassy but with that extra zest of fruit. Cracking quality for the price.
Founded by Anthony Hamilton Russell in 1994, Southern Right has established itself as a distinguished Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc specialist, situated on a strikingly beautiful 448-hectare property in the cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation. The wines are named after the rare Southern Right whales, which frequent the cool South Atlantic Walker Bay, just three kilometres from the vineyards.
