Savage Wines 'Savage Red' 2024
Duncan’s flagship ‘Savage Red’ is 100% Syrah produced from three maritime sites overlooking Table Bay and False Bay in Stellenbosch. These low-yielding vines are planted on poor soils, resulting in a concentrated yet elegant Syrah with notes of dark plum, lavender and pink peppercorn. With a long life ahead of it, it is structured by tense, chalky tannins and bright acidity.
"Now a varietal Syrah – it included other things in the past – this superb red uses grapes from
Kuils River and the nearby Polkadraai Hills in Stellenbosch. Fermented with 70% whole
clusters before ageing in older barrels and foudres, it’s very much a northern Rhône style,
with top notes of white pepper and lavender, savoury tannins, flavours of blackcurrant and
fennel and a hint of cola. 2028-35" 95pts Tim Atkin MW South Africa Report 2026
