We have secured a parcel of this awesome lees aged Godello which earlier this year came =2nd in the Decanter Godello panel tasting (top was Palacios Sorte a Soro 2020 c £300 a bottle!)
"Bodegas Madai was started by two brothers, Daniel and Gonzalo Amigo, who set about rejuvenating their family’s old-vine vineyards in El Bierzo. Their first wine was this Godello Sobre Lías (‘Godello under lees’), which is sourced from some of the oldest vines in Bierzo and aged for 12 months on its fine lees. Sarah Jane Evans MW: Alluring aromas of warm stones and citrus. Complex palate, bursting with kumquats, passion fruit, honey, cream – multilayered. Long and expressive. Christine Parkinson: Honeysuckle and lemon grove aromas. Taut and linear, with persistent ripe citrus and herbal notes over a mild savoury core. Has a raw, windswept feel. David Williams: Full and intense ripe lemon and white fruit on the nose; green tea; very juicy, succulent palate; attractive bitter note on the finish. Full of life and energy.
