Aliquid Novi is the unique Pinotage wine from the iconic Perold Vineyard on Mostersdrift, home of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advaned Study (STIAS). Planted in 2008 this vineyard is a mere 0.5 hectares big with a total of 966 vines. In line with the experimental character of Stias, the 24 double rows of vines were planted in a half moon pattern to expose the vines to different sun positions through 180 degrees. The Pinotage vines consists of the PIN48 clone, crafted onto the US8/7UC32 rootstock.

VINIFICATION Grapes were picked by hand then destemmend, hand sorted and crushed. The wine was fermented with selected commercial yeasts in open bins and punched down four a day by hand. Only 2nd, 3rd and 4 fill French Oak barrels were used to mature this wine for 16 months before bottling.
CELLAR MASTER’S COMMENTS Aliquid Novi 2021 is an elegant, lighter style of Pinotage, that leans more towards the Pinot Noir parent rather than Cinsaut. The wine is neither heavy or overwhelming, but nuanced and complex with typical Pinotage character on the nose and palate.
With only 1000 bottles released each year this wine is destined to become a collector’s item.
