Fabulous, textural, delicious Picpoul !
Tamlyn Currin writing for JancisRobinson.com has recently visited the region and tasted over 45 examples of Picpoul de Pinet and this came out on top!
"Fruit from a single parcel just 4 km from the Thau lagoon, harvested about 10 days later than most vineyards in the AOC. Aged on its lees for six months, 30% in ceramic jars and the rest in concrete tanks. Certified organic (Ecocert) and biodynamic (Demeter).
This is my producer of the day. Another thrilling wine. Dry but honeyed, marmalade intensity and bitterness. Candied citrus peel, star anise. Curves and coils, but still etched. Long. Glowing. Outstanding. Kudos to importer Liberty Wines for finding this young winemaker, AnaĂ¯s RicĂ´me (who spent some time in New Zealand making wine before she came home to the family domaine).
