La Comarcal is a new small project from a couple of friends, Javi Revert (ex Celler del Roure) and Víctor Marqués (Casa Lo Alto and ex-Celler del Roure). This is a Garnacha 70% and Syrah 30% blend from vines 700 metres above sea level. It's a lovely fresh style. Bright berry fruit with some spice and a touch of dried herb/green pepper and a little plain chocolate on the finish. Lots of energy to the wine with good acidity. For drinking over the next couple of years. was delicious with some Galician beef and Wagyu beef burgers! And tried again more recently and worked well with a variety of Thai/Burmese dishes.
"The red Delmoro has been renamed to 2023 La Comarcal Tinto, as it's the last year it will be a village wine from Venta del Moro. The blend has been fine-tuned, with a little more Garnacha and less Syrah, 80% and 20% respectively. Most of the Garnacha comes from a four-hectare plot planted in 1987 in the lieu-dit of Guindal. 2023 saw a slow but gradual transition toward cooler temperatures, and they also looked for more shadow in the grapes and harvested earlier, which allowed them to keep the freshness and crunchiness in the grapes. They fermented the varieties separately with 50% full clusters; the Garnacha stays in stainless steel and the Syrah in concrete for five months before being blended. It has a pale color, and it's aromatic, fresh and light, more Garnacha than Syrah, with very good freshness, juicy and easy to drink. Great value too." 92+pts Luis Gutiérrez The Wine Advocate.
