La Baixada, a small, 1.3-hectare single vineyard that is also a component of Finca Dofí, always stands apart from the rest of the Priorat range for its uniquely different terroir but, oh, how I love it! The nose is full of focused, blackberry-pure fruit with a fresh, blueberry scent. There is a very pure, crystalline rainwater element here too, infused with a sweet lift of crushed, wild herbs.
The palate is full of crunchy, black cherries and violets with an almost graphite lick at the back. There is a beautiful smoothness to the wine, and so much limestone freshness, but all its power is held in check with such incredibly effortless poise. The tannins feel initially tight but then just melt softly on the dark, violet chocolate and savoury-edged finish. Drink 2027 to 2049.
