Gomez Cruzado's Blanco '2 Ano' is a Burgundian style which reflects the land, rather than purely varietal expression. The resulting wine has character and weight whilst retaining fresh acidity and appealing aromatics. A blend of Viura and Tempranillo Blanco and half is aged in new untoasted French oak for 5 months and half in concrete tank.
The palate is beautifully textured, with an almost exotic note, evident yet perfectly integrated oak and ripe fruit. Complex and with a long toasty, citrus finish. Complex and long yet fresh too. Great with rice dishes, chicken, and creamy pasta. This was hugely popular at our recent Gomez Cruzado tasting.
"The pale white 2022 Blanco 2º Año was produced with 70% Viura, 25% Tempranillo Blanco and 2.5% each Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía Riojana. It matured in concrete (two-thirds) and untoasted barrels with the lees, recovering the old tradition to sell whites in their second year. It's clean, aromatic and expressive, with lightness and freshness, 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.65 and mellow acidity. 46,891 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023." 91+ Luis Gutiérrez The Wine Advocate
