The 2019 Giaconda Shiraz is initially dark and brooding, yet a very fine seam of blackcurrants still comes through, alongside an invigorating herbal lift of wild oregano. The palate has that richness, creaminess and sweetness that you might initially associate with a rather elegant blackcurrant cheesecake. There is, however, a beautiful, mineral cut-through here, which cleanses the palate like tasting freshly-picked blackberries. The tannins are elegant and exceptionally fine; a long mineral note of wet gravel runs through this towards the herbaceous, leaf-edged finish. This is superbly refreshing for a Shiraz. Drink 2022 – 2036.
