The vineyards of the Coteaux des Baronnies are situated high up behind Provence in the mountains that sit above the Rhône Valley overlooking the vineyards of Côtes du Rhône Villages and Vinsobres, which are on the western edge of the appellation. It is well known for its spectacularly clear night sky, so much so that there is an observatory up there. Fortunately for us it is less known for its spectacular vineyards at high altitude and even less so for the quality of its Syrah, a varietal that is produced in small quantities up there giving wines with great freshness and concentration.
Its quite Northern Rhone in style- full of bright peppery flavours, violets on the nose, with a juicy mid palate. Crunchy and fresh, its very attractive, would be great with some lamb, roast or grilled.
