12 months in French oak barrels. Bodegas Atalaya was founded in 2007 by the Gil Family of Jumilla. The prominent grape variety in Almansa is Garnacha Tintorera –Alicante Bouschet- along with Monastrell. The La Atalaya is 85% Garnacha Tintorera and 15% Monastrell planted around 1000 metres -3280 feet- above sea level and aged for 12 months in French oak. It sports a glass coated with glycerin as well as a super-fragrant nose of exotic spices, lavender, incense, and black raspberry. Succulent, layered, and totally pleasurebent, this plush offering has a smooth-as-silk finish totally unexpected from a wine of this humble price. It is an amazing value in unrestrained hedonism!

"I also tasted the 2020 La Atalaya del Camino from a classical vintage of wines with less alcohol and higher acidity and more balance. This is a blend of 85% Garnacha Tintorera and 15% Monastrell from dry-farmed, head-pruned vines that are planted on limestone soils and average 45 years of age. It fermented in open-top stainless steel vats with neutral yeasts and matured in French oak barrels for one year. This feels harmonious and integrated, still young and a little creamy, but it was only bottled one month before I tasted it. There's more freshness and balance here.." 92 pts Luis Gutiérrez The Wine Advocate
