Valencia mountain wine, grown at 800 metres above sea level. Mostly made with indigenous Bobal grape variety but has a splash of Garnacha and Syrah in it too. It's brighter and more vibrant than it's neighbours and when yields are hugely reduced (Bobal can be a bit of a cash crop with high yielding vines making very dull wines) this almost elegant red but with lovely sweet red fruit is produced. The three grape varieties are vinified separately then aged in old oak for just under a year to round it out. It has a leafy Cab/Cab Franc aroma with a touch of dark cherry and a touch of roasted meats, on the palate it's bright and juicy, just the heavier side of medium bodied with plum/prune and olive and the merest hint of oak. Was surprisingly drinkable with a butter chicken curry !
"The red 2021 Mestizaje Tinto was produced with a blend of 75% Bobal, 15% Garnacha and 10% Syrah. It has 13.5% alcohol and kept good balance and freshness. It matured in a combination of oak vats and barriques for one year. It's quite classical, serious, balanced and fresh, with a certain complexity, Mediterranean with elegance." 92 pts Luis Gutiérrez The Wine Advocate
