Our search for exceptional Chardonnay led us north to Spanish Springs Vineyard on the San Luis Obispo Coast. Located less than two miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard is shaped by a strong marine influence tempered by abundant sunshine, allowing the fruit to ripen fully while retaining its natural freshness and acidity. The 2024 vintage marks our first Chardonnay from Spanish Springs. Guided by Jim Clendenen’s belief that single-vineyard wines should express a true sense of place, this bottling captures the vineyard’s distinctive balance of bright acidity, coastal salinity, and generous fruit. Just beyond Santa Barbara County, Spanish Springs is a natural addition to Au Bon Climat’s collection of vineyard-designate Chardonnays.
Wine will be available Spring 2027.
"The 2024 Chardonnay Spanish Springs Vineyard screams with tension and saline energy, all translated through the lens of the rounder, richer Au Bon Climat house style. Lemon pith, oyster shell, sea spray, tarragon and green apple tones are offset by toasted spices, sweet vanilla and gentle roundness. The balance is fantastic." 94pts Billy Norris Vinous
