Wednesday 27th May - 7.30pm
We round off our tasting programme with one of Italy’s most iconic producers: Allegrini of Valpolicella.
Since the 1960s, when Giovanni Allegrini first bottled wines from the family vineyards, Allegrini has been a pioneer of site-specific Valpolicella, championing native grapes and terroir. Today, the family farms 120 hectares in Valpolicella Classico, including the legendary La Grola vineyard — the first planted predominantly with Corvina.
After Giovanni’s death in 1983, siblings Walter, Marilisa and Franco continued his work, transforming the estate into a global benchmark for Valpolicella, remaining fully committed to Corvina while Franco helped revolutionise the appassimento method with the Terre di Fumane drying facility. Now led by the next generation, the estate continues to innovate. Their new Grola Valpolicella Classico Superiore reimagines this great site with lower yields, gentler extraction and added Rondinella.
This promises to be an evening that combines heritage, innovation and outstanding Valpolicella, across the Allegrini range, from the bright Vapolicella full of red cherry fruit and lifted perfumes to the intense, rich Amarone. We will be serving a selection of food throughout the evening, including a hot dish.
