Wagram sits along a steep loess terrace overlooking the Danube northwest of Vienna, its deep, wind-blown soil giving wines a rounder, more full-bodied character than the stonier sites elsewhere in Austria. Grüner Veltliner is the dominant grape, typically riper and softer here than the more mineral styles of the Wachau, and the region is also one of the last strongholds of Roter Veltliner, a rare, distinct grape despite the similar name.
Key grapes: Grüner Veltliner, Roter Veltliner, Riesling
