Eden Valley rises above the warmer Barossa Valley floor, its higher altitude and cooler nights giving wines noticeably more restraint and finesse than its famous neighbour. Riesling is the region's calling card, tight and citrus-driven with a long ageing trajectory, while Eden Valley Shiraz tends toward a more peppery, medium-bodied style than Barossa's richer, riper reds — Henschke's Hill of Grace, one of Australia's most celebrated wines, comes from vines planted here in the 1860s.
Key grapes: Riesling, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon
