Collection: Mas Amiel Pre-Release Offer - sensational Maury wines from this historic estate

Our pre-release offer of Mas Amiel wines includes three wines which have scored a 19.5 Points from JancisRobinson.com, the Maury 40 Ans d’Age which evokes such tasting notes as “A kaleidoscope in the mouth: cherry, cigar, ginger snaps, smoked pecans, marmalade, marmelo” , the Maury ’99 Millésime, "a towering sculpture of a wine. To grasp it, you’d need to sit with it, listen to it, give it space to tell its stories.” and the Maury ’69 Millésime " If the 1999 was a sculpture, the 1969 is like a national museum, a massive colonnaded building broached by marble steps and filled with light and shadows, edifices and crannies, vaults and ringing corridors and dust and treasures. It is also a wine that deserves hours and hours, silent conversations, listening and contemplation."

The wines will be delivered in October 2025

The story of Mas Amiel begins with a fateful card game, where the Bishop of Perpignan lost his vineyard to engineer Raymond Etienne Amiel in a bet. Originally known as Domaine de Goudous, the estate would later be renamed Mas Amiel.

Set at the gateway to Cathar Country in the heart of the Agly Valley, Mas Amiel is framed by dramatic landscapes: the ancient Cathar citadel of Quéribus watches over it, with the Corbières mountain range to the north and the first foothills of the Pyrenees to the south. The vines thrive in a rare climate, blessed with 260 days of sunshine each year and just 370 mm of rainfall.

The modern era of Mas Amiel began in 1999, when Olivier Decelle discovered the estate. At the time, the venerable old vines were largely dedicated to producing Vins Doux Naturels. Recognising their potential for fine, age-worthy reds, Olivier shifted the focus, unlocking the full expression of the vineyard. Today, the estate is composed of 95 plots, each defined by its own soil—schist, calco-schist, or gneis— and planted with emblematic varieties such as Grenache, Maccabeu, and Carignan.

Mas Amiel is particularly celebrated for its great sweet wines: elegant and floral, they highlight the typicity of the region’s grape varieties. These wines are marked by a distinctive fleshiness and minerality, with the terroir leaving a lasting imprint on every cuvée.

One of the estate’s most iconic traditions is ‘Le Parc à Bonbonnes,’ where 60-litre glass demijohns are arranged across the land. Here, the wine rests for a year under open skies, exposed to sun, stars, and the changing seasons, gaining both concentration and complexity. After this unique evolution, the wines are transferred to vast oak vats, standing 10 meters tall, where they continue their maturation until deemed ready for release.
