Martinez Lacuesta are one of the oldest registered brands in Rioja, pre-dating the creation of the Rioja designation itself. The wines are predominantly made from Tempranillo grown high in Rioja Alta to the West of Haro, with smatterings of Mazuelo, Graciano and Garnacha.
Over the last 20 years significant investment has been made to allow Martinez Lacuesta to own far more of their vineyards and a new winery and cellar was opened in 2015. Reflecting this more modern approach a selection of 'modern style' Riojas have been produced in limited quantities for those who prefer French oak over American.
We love the diversity of Martinez Lacuesta's offering- they produce excellent Rioja reds at all prices, but also some delicious whites (at a very smart price) and a fresh, bright rose. They also make top-quality Vermouth, something we're all passionate about at NYWines.
