A small amount of the white Viura is added to the Tempranillo, and this makes the wine that bit more perfumed and juicy. Partial carbonic maceration is used to promote the bright primary fruitiness of the Tempranillo, red berry and cherry. It's bright and fresh with a real mouthwatering finish. Some tannin on the finish gives the wine some structure and balance, and its oh so drinkable! This is a wine i drink often, especially when in Spain when i can drink it for less than €20 a bottle in a restaurant!

Wine of The Week JancisRobinson.com 4/9/2026

"For the last few weeks, I have relentlessly pursued the fruitiest, brightest, youngest, most transparent red wines available. No oak. Alcohol less than 14%. Chillable. The type of wines that demand to be drunk in their ebullient youth – so chock-a-block full of bouncy energy that they’ll probably burn out within a year or two.

The last time I went searching at a shop, the wine steward pushed a Rioja into my hands. I shoved it back at him, shaking my head, ‘Rioja is for winter’, I said. ‘I don’t want oak and age.’ He shoved it back at me. ‘It’s not even as rich as a joven or a crianza’, he said. ‘It tastes like darker beaujolais – carbonic and fruity. It’s 2025.’ I bought it with thanks.....

The wine steward was not wrong! The carbonic maceration was abundantly evident in the smell of Munger raspberries, strawberries and even a hint of banana and ripe fig. The intensity of aromas overpowered even the garlic from the cooking beans. The fruit had depth despite the bright, fresh acidity. The tannins were sandy and the wine felt lighter than its 13.5% alcohol. It was everything I wanted.

The wine that I am recommending is a blend of the family’s plots in the village of Baños de Ebro in Rioja Alavesa. The plots range in elevation from 420 to 500 m (1,378–1,640 ft) on calcareous sandstone and clay soils. Despite the accessible price and open and easy-drinking nature of the wines, the viticulture is serious. Vines for this wine average 40 years of age and are all organically farmed.

While I won’t be throwing this wine in a blind tasting anytime soon, I will absolutely be drinking it again." Samantha Cole-Johnson 4/9/26 Jancisrobinson.com

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0731/8388/7652/files/Image_Editor_17_d41eadd0-302c-4be6-b255-61123b2784b8.png?v=1705058636
