The 2019 Giaconda Chardonnay has that lovely struck match note on the nose for which this wine is so famous but its true beauty lies, as usual, in just how very well balanced this is with equally bright notes of ripe lemon and juicy red apple. The palate has a rounded texture with juicy yellow apple, white peach and pear. It is mineral-fresh with of toast in the background alongside a fine, layered savoury (not quite marmite but on the way there) element. The finish is long and rewarding with a delicious fruit/umami finale. Drink 2022 – 2040.
