Fil-loxera & Cia 'La Mujer Caballo Toronja'
La Mujer Caballo named after the extraordinary world of the horse woman- half woman and half horse. A fabulously interesting, textural wine. Toronja is Orange, and this is an orange wine, not just because of its vinification techniques but due to the varieties used. From vineyards planted in 1972. Seriously complex and a wine that just grows and changes in the glass. The food matching ideas are numerable!! "The orange 2018 La Mujer Caballo Toronja has a spectacular nose of candied apricots and a dry and powerful palate with fine tannins derived from the fermentation of the wine with the skins of the 60% Valencí and 10% Moscatel Romano grapes plus 30% of other varieties some of which are still unidentified from old head-pruned vines. They say the wine is very aromatic and reminds them of a Mediterranean forest, which is a good definition. The grapes are picked late, but the wine is still 13% alcohol and full of flavours and aromas. With time in the glass, the notes of hops that I found in the other white seem to be even stronger here. Again, a white (orange) full of personality. It went through malolactic and matured with lees in oak and acacia barrels for eight months. I liked it very much. 1,209 bottles were filled in August 2019." 93 pts Luis Gutiérrez The Wine Advocate 9/20
