Danbury Ridge Chardonnay
This is a fabulous wine from Danbury Ridge Wine Estate, with amazing vineyards in a unique microclimate in Danbury, Essex. They achieve natural ripeness of at least 13% every vintage so far, even in cooler wetter years like 2019, and to an extent the late Summer/early Autumn of 2020.
This, as do all the releases from 2018, take English still wine to a new quality level.
From young vines this is quite something, 14% natural alcohol, aged in c 33% new French oak. Served blind i would put this as high quality California, or ripe vintage Burgundy. Citrus and stone fruit, a touch of manderin/tangerine, hints of spice, with a lovely viscous textural feel too leading to a long, nutty, creamy finish.
