The wine is a rich golden sunset orange. Oranges, too, set the tone for its astonishing, perfume-like aromas: once smelled, never forgotten. On the palate it is thick, liquorous and unctuous, though still bright with that intense orange fruit. In some sweet wines, sheer intensity of sugar substitutes for complexity. Not here. It’s almost as if the force of Pantelleria’s near-African sunlight has engraved the wine with layers and lessons of its own\u003c\/span\u003e.\"\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGrapes were hand harvested and carefully selected in the vineyards. I think it's a really delicious example, ripe but not overly, really tangy with lovely limey acidity on the long minerally finish, some spice too. Beautifully balanced. Delicious on its own but a versatile food wine; think fish, white meats especially pork, lightly spiced dishes too. This was an outstanding vintage, according to head winemaker Luís Sottomayor. Vinification took place at Quinta do Seixo and Quinta da Leda. The grapes underwent destemming and crushing before being transferred to stainless-steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. Aged in used French oak barrels for 12 months. The wine subject only to filtration prior to bottling. TA 5.3 g\/l, pH 3.6. Vegan.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eVery dark with black core. Fragrant with pure, dark Douro fruit, with no one variety dominating and just a hint of Touriga Nacional’s floral character. Relatively light-bodied, juicy and extremely refreshing. I actually prefer this to the Callabriga, which is more obviously oaky. Refined, dry tannins not far from silky even in youth.
