Collection: Alheit South Africa 2021 Release
We are, as ever, delighted to be able to offer the latest releases from Chris & Suzaan Alheit. What is not so delightful is the lack of quantity! So please be quick when ordering them. We expect (hope) to receive the wines in the middle of November.
- Production on the Cartology 2021 was greater than in 2020, so we have a little more to play with this vintage. The blend and vineyard source remain constant with 90% Chenin blended with 10% Semillon.
Nautical Dawn is sourced from an old Chenin vintage within sight of False Bay.
La Colline has been renamed Monument from the 2020 vintage and is old-vine Semillon sourced from a single slope on the Robertsvlei Road in Franschhoek.
Hemelrand Vine Garden is a field blend of Roussanne, Chenin, Chardonnay, Verdelho and Muscat. My best interpretation is this is where Alsace meets the Rhône. After 10 years in the ground, these vines are now coming of age and certainly complimentary to the rest of the single vineyard range.
After much deliberation and just a single release, the name Broom Ridge has been dropped and Fire By Night reinstated. Chris says that he thought ‘Broom Ridge’ sounded like a fuel stop lost in the Australian Outback…
Hereafter Here is from parcels of younger vine Chenin, sourced from various sites around the Cape, including from the Swartland farm. This is only the second release.
Note that there was no Huilkrans or Magnetic North produced from the 2021 vintage.
